About BMC

Brookfield Music Centre, Gloucestershire Music's pilot music centre opened in 1978. Since that time thousands of children have been given their first experience of orchestral playing with us. Progressing from BMC into the County orchestras and bands, the National Children's' Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra and into professions in music and teaching. (Many now teach your children at school).  The original aim of the Centre remains: Music for all abilities as a fun activity producing the highest standards possible.
In addition to our weekly meetings and internal concerts we also do our best to enrich the musical experience of our 200 students with trips to concerts and lectures and recitals from visiting artists.

"Pick & Mix" Students are not obliged to attend for the full three hours, but can "pick & mix" - within timetable restrictions - from a wide range of activities. There is no extra charge for attending more than one activity, and we recommend that to derive the maximum from what we have to offer students should partake as fully as possible.

Theory of Music: To supplement the instrumental groups, Theory of Music classes to the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music syllabus are provided at each grade. Although not obligatory they do provide a necessary part of any instrumentalist's training. BMC is a registered centre for the Associated Board Theory exams and has a 98% pass rate with over 80% of candidates gaining a pass at merit or distinction level. For those in school years 7 to 9 who have passed Grade 5 theory a two-year course in GCSE music is available.

Kindermusik: Our pre-instrumental music programme for ages 3 to 7, is designed in response to countless government and independent reports that learning music from an early age improves all aspects of  children's performance at school.

New Members: Any prospective student can take up to two trial sessions without charge.  There's no need to make an appointment, just turn up and enquire at the registration desk. Parents are welcome to stay and observe, and all new students are assigned a senior student to help them until they feel at home. (Please check that the Centre is open by checking out the date on the "Sessions" page).

Medical Problems: Student welfare is a high priority. If your child has a medical condition (or any other problem) please advise the Centre.

Fees:  A full year's membership costs £96 (If joining part-way through the year a reduction of one-sixth will be made for each half term missed). This membership fee also covers membership of any other County Music Group - details of all other Centres, Orchestras and Bands can be found on the Music Groups page of the Gloucestershire Music website. You can also download a membership form from this location. (Link to the Gloucestershire Music website by clicking on the logo at the top of the page).
