| GYWO presents challenging opportunities for all wind, brass and percussion players. There is an increasing quantity of original music written for wind orchestras, which include a repertoire which has many arrangements of works by famous composers from the Renaissance to the present day. The musical styles vary from classical to light with popular and swing included somewhere in between. A new programme is prepared for concerts each term, although some major works may be used in consecutive programmes. |

The main focus of the Forest of Dean Area
Bands remains our flagship 'Forest of Dean Area Wind Band' which meets
from 10.00 - 11.50 and is suitable for players who are grade 2 standard
and above, but we are now able to cater for all young brass, percussion
and woodwind players, right from those who only know a few notes to
those studying for diplomas through our 'options scheme' which runs
every week from 12.00 - 1.00. Options are: Forest of Dean Area Junior Windband For students who are 14and under. The music in this group is of an easier standard than the Area bandand is ideal for inexperienced players of who are looking for an introduction to ensemble playing. Forest of Dean Area Youth Brass Band This band has been created to help pave the way for young brass players who may not have much experience of brass bands into the county’s premier brass band GYBB and into local brass bands. Forest of Dean Area Woodwind Band This band has been created to give our woodwind players a chance to showcase their unique talents and ensemble skills. Forest of Dean Area Jazz Band For FODAWB players who are keen to play jazz but are unable to attend Gloucestershire Music’s monday night Jazz Centre. Forest of Dean Area Starter Band This band, is led by experienced FODAWB members who would like to help younger children who are not yet ready for our more advanced groups but are keen to join us to learn to play in a group! Chamber Music Gives members an opportunity to develop their ensemble skills in smaller groups. Theory Club Is designed to provide members with a quiet hour in which to complete theory work set for them by their teachers. Members who have passed G5 theory are on hand to help out if needed.

| Cotswold Flute Choir aims to extend flautists’ technical skills and to provide a platform for solo performance. The Choir is open to flautists in all areas of Gloucestershire and provides young players who have a common instrumental interest with the opportunity to meet together and play a wide range of music specially written for flute choir. Most of the membership play concert flute but some members have the opportunity to play Alto or Bass flutes. In addition their regular concert schedule the band undertakes a tour abroad every two years |
