Gloucestershire Music Jazz Live 
 

  

Gloucestershire Music Jazz Live is an exciting new jazz centre catering for pupils from grade 2 upwards.

Jazz Live meets on Monday evenings from 1900 - 2100 at Chosen Hill School in Churchdown.

Host to all the county youth jazz groups (GYJO, GYJO II, Jazz Connection & Jazz Factory), pupils get the chance to experience all jazz styles in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Emphasis is placed on improvisation and and pupils are encouraged to perform in a big band setting as well as learning to create arrangements in a jazz combo.

Gloucestershire Jazz Factory
No audition required.
Standard: Grades
2+ to 4
 

This entry-level ensemble allows students the chance to perform in a large ensemble.
Jazz Factory is a dynamic group which rehearses styles from swing to rock; great opportunity for the less experienced performer to learn the basics of improvisation.

     


  
Jazz Connection
No audition required.
Standard: Grades 4 to 6

 

This ensemble is great for students who enjoy the challenge of “Impro”
Emphasis is placed on students rehearsing jazz standards and creating arrangements from lead sheets. Pupils get the chance to study some of the well-known big band charts.
 


  
Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra II
No audition required.
Standard: Grades 5 to 7
   

GYJO II is an intermediate Big Band rehearsing challenging repertoire from rock to modern swing. This large exciting band allows students to study and enjoy the famous charts of Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Miles Davis.
  


  
Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra
Audition required.
Standard: Grade 7 upwards.
 
GYJO is a high standard jazz ensemble that requires performers to be highly committed to rehearsing challenging repertoire that includes modern jazz compositions.
All performers are expected to understand basic jazz theory and be able and willing to play extended improvised solos.
