Five Valleys offers music opportunities to all pupils who play orchestral musical instruments. It offers pupils their first experience and excitement of playing in large ensembles as an extension to their lessons and the musical activities in their school. The Centre has String Starters and Wind Starters for those who have just begun their music path, a recorder ensemble, then Junior and Senior Orchestra, a String Orchestra, Wind Band, Jazz Band and Choir, all run by experienced specialists who enjoy working with young talent.
There are Centre concerts every term and external ones involving some of the groups, and the opportunity to play in Cheltenham Town Hall each Summer.
FVMC also runs two groups for very young people to give them an enjoyable opportunity to develop some of the foundations to music. They learn to feel and move to the pulse and rhythm of music, they also sing and play percussion instruments. Quavers is for the pre school age group, and Crotchets is for those of infant school age. Many begin to learn the recorder or violin and move onto other instruments and progress through the Centre’s groups.
All students are expected to develop their musical knowledge through the theory session which is taught up to Grade 5.
