Up first, and setting the standard, will be the Forest of Dean Area Junior Wind Band who will participate in the Infants and Junior's day on Monday 7th July. The members of this dynamic young band, who are all under 14, played Chris North's Medieval Suite to a very high standard at the Regional Festival and are looking forward to performing it again (even better!) on Symphony Hall's magnificent stage. |

Also
representing Gloucestershire Music will be the Forest of Dean Area
Youth Brass Band. The band is delighted to have been selected as 1
of only 9 brass bands in the whole of the UK to participate in the
music centre category at the Brass Band Festival which will take
place on Thursday 10th July. FODAYBB was created in September 2007
to help pave the way for the Forest of Dean Area Wind
Band's brass section and other young brass players in the area into
the Gloucestershire Youth Brass Band, the Gloucestershire Youth
Training Brass Band and local brass bands. The band's stunning debut
at the regional festival certainly caught the adjudicator's eyes and
ears and even had them clapping their hands along with the rest of
the audience to Alan Fernie's African Funk GM's third ensemble at this year's regional event, the Forest of Dean's flagship band (Forest of Dean Area Wind Band) also played extremely well and were desperately unlucky to have missed out this time round as the standard of Wind Bands at the Regional Festival was so extra-ordinarily high. Maybe next year...
Congratulations to you all! |

Gloucester Music Forum publishes first research report Gloucester Music Forum has published the findings of a study into music making for and by young people aged 14-25 in Gloucester. The research, funded by Gloucestershire Music, investigated what kind of music young people are involved in at the moment (outside of the school curriculum), and what is needed to develop music making opportunities in Gloucester in the future. The report looks at activities provided for young people through Gloucestershire Music, Wired Records, the Guildhall, the Youth Service, Gloucestershire College; and music made independently by rock/pop bands and urban artists. It identifies opportunities to develop the work of existing providers, and to support young people in their own music-making. The study will now be extended through two county-wide online surveys (one for young musicians and one for music leaders), and further research into activities in three target areas – Cheltenham, Wootton-under-Edge and Newent. Making music brings all sorts of benefits to a young person - developing their confidence, creativity and personal potential, as well as their musical skills. This will have an impact on individuals, on our community and on our economy now and in the future. This research is helping us to find out what more we could all be doing do to help young people develop through music. Additional information: Gloucester Music Forum was formed in 2007 to support music making with young people aged 14-25. It currently comprises Gloucestershire College, Gloucestershire Music - Gloucestershire County Council’s Music Service for young people in schools, the Guildhall Arts Centre, Wired Records and the University of Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire Music offers a wide range of services to schools on behalf of the county council including tuition, instrument hire, organising concerts for schools, running county music groups and hosting the Gloucestershire Young Musician Competition.
