The 2008
Competition
STAGE
ONE:
Applicants in five categories (Piano, Strings, Woodwind, Brass &
Orchestral Percussion) will be
invited to give a 12 minute recital before a panel of adjudicators on
Sunday, January 6th 2008. As a result of this stage five finalists
will be selected to proceed to the Second Stage.
STAGE
TWO:
The five finalists will each give a 15 minute recital before an audience
and a panel of adjudicators on Thursday, March 6th 2008 at the Pittville Pump
Room, Cheltenham.
1st Prize:
1)
The Oldbury Trophy
2) A cheque for
£500.
3) Performance 1: A concerto or concerto movement of their own choice
with the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra at the Youth Makes Music
festival in Cheltenham Town Hall on June 30th 2008.
4) Performance 2: A concerto or concerto movement of their own choice
with the Cheltenham Symphony Orchestra at the Leonard Stanley Festival in
July 2008.
5) Performance 3: A recital as part of the Cheltenham International Festival of Music during July
2008.
There is no placing other than 1st.
Each of the remaining competitors will
receive a cheque for £100.

Rules
for the 2008 Competition
1. Entrants
should bear a birth-date no earlier than March 6th 1986.
2. Applicants should be Gloucestershire Residents; i.e., their
principal home residence for the last two years should be in
Gloucestershire.
N.B.
1) Students boarding
in Gloucestershire do not qualify unless their home is also within the
County.
2) The competition is not open to residents of South Gloucestershire.
3. Previous
title-holders are ineligible for entry.
4. Candidates should be of
at least Grade 8 standard (Associated Board or equivalent) on their
instrument.
5. Entry is limited to the following: Piano, all brass, all woodwind,
all strings, Orchestral Percussion.
6. Candidate will undertake to provide their own accompanist for both
stages of the competition.
7. No expenses can be met by the competition promoters for Stages One
and Two.
Expenses may be
payable to the winner of the competition in respect of performances 1
& 3 if considerable travel is involved. These will be at the
discretion of the promoters of 'Youth Makes Music' and 'Cheltenham Arts
Festivals Ltd'.
8. All
photographic, recording and broadcast rights for the competition final and
associated concerts shall be assigned to the competition
promoters.
9.
The
winner must undertake performances 1 and 3. Failure to do so, for
whatever reason, will mean forfeiture of the title, and the return of the
trophy and prize money.
10. All
decisions by the competition promoters and adjudicators are final. No
reports on the performances will be available and no correspondence
regarding the decisions will be entered into.
